Clean House ~ I'm annoyed

Last night I got the remote. Jerry was doing something on the computer and he tossed me the remote as I laid on the couch trying to snuggle Danika to sleep (yes, I know that's a habit we have to break...and soon).

I started watching In The Womb on the National Geographic Channel...but it made me want to be pregnant again so I decided to watch something else. Clean House was airing their "Messiest House in the Country" episode...I thought it may inspire me to clean my house so I turned it on. I watched the whole thing and in the end it just really ticked me off. I mean those women didn't seem to appreciate what they were given at all.

First of all, their house was the messiest house in the country by far. Literally, they didn't have an inch of space in which to live. The youngest daughter (there were 3 women living in the house ~ mom and 2 daughters...probably in their late 20's early 30's) admitted to never eating at home because there was no where to sit and eat! The mother's room had so much stuff on the bed that the only way she could have possibly slept was scrunched up where the pillows were...the floor and closets were packed full of crap. There were boxes and papers and junk in every room...every inch of every room. I can't even imagine how someone's house gets like that...it was truly awful.

These women kept everything. They won a home makeover because of their pack rat behavior and it ticked me off. Not only did they not have to pay a thing to get their house totally redone (new furniture, new appliances, new carpet, new paint, new window treatments, new bedding, new high def tvs), they were purged of their belongings. I know that is the point of the show ~ declutter. These women were holding on so tightly to their things that they actually went through the stuff in the yard sale and carted things off in the other daughter's car. They fought tooth and nail when the time came to get rid of junk. I guess, in their defense, they were holding on to certain items for reasons we all do. A lot of the things reminded them of their father/husband who died three years prior. Then there was the older daughter who was planning on moving "someday" and had bought things to take with her when she does...buckets, pots and pans, etc. By the time the Clean Home crew was done the house looked amazing. I think they totally wasted their time, though. I fully expect that these women will just let the junk pile up again. It may take a while, but they really didn't seem to appreciate or understand what anyone did for them.

That ticked me off. When I watch (and I've only done this a handful of time) Extreme Home Makeover I am so touched by the stories and you can tell that the families they help are truly thankful. I wanted to slap these women. All of them. Especially the mother...and then I wanted to burn everything in her closet. I will admit that she seemed "better" by the end.

The money they raised from their yard sale (around $1,800) went to the American Stroke Foundation (I think that's right) because they won a free makeover so the money went to a charity of their choice. The husband/father died of a stroke and they chose that charity. That was pretty cool...but all in all the show just made me mad. Okay, mad and a little bit jealous...anyone want to come declutter my house and redo it? You can start with the bathroom.

I don't think I'll be watching again.

Haha, I watched "In the Womb" and it made me want a baby too! I watched the whole show though. Maybe a baby next year sometime? Who knows. I need to discuss it with my husband first. lol

I looove Extreme Home Makeover. Like Amy, it almost always makes me cry. I have watched Clean Home just once and the episode was pretty good. The family was OK except that the mom didn't know much how to organize and was also a pack rat. But she was trying and was really nice unlike the family you saw. I'm glad I didn't see that episode. LOL
